PRESIDENT TRUMP'S FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE REVEALS OVER $1.2 BILLION IN CRYPTO-RELATED INCOME

If passed through Congress, the CLARITY Act would allow continued crypto corruption risk for elected officials.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, the U.S. Office of Government Ethics released President Trump’s annual financial disclosure, showing that of his $2 billion personal income in 2025, over $1.2 billion was from his crypto-related businesses. With minimal safeguards, the cryptocurrency legislation, CLARITY Act, moving through Congress now would codify this type of corruption risk.

Gary Kalman, Executive Director of Transparency International US (TI US), has issued the following statement:

“The Senate’s proposed CLARITY Act allows for open corruption risks through crypto, and President Trump’s recently released financial disclosures show exactly why the bill must not move forward.

“By wielding the power of the federal government to protect and benefit the crypto market, President Trump is overseeing policies that directly affect ventures from which he personally reported more than $1.2 billion in crypto-related income over the past year. That is an extraordinary conflict of interest unfolding in plain sight.

“Congress’ job is clear: Amend the CLARITY Act to prevent public officials from benefiting from digital asset ventures while in office. And because crypto ventures can be held or routed through close family members, any serious ethics fix must cover both public officials and their immediate family members.

“Cryptocurrency regulation is needed and overdue, but this isn’t the way to do it. The CLARITY Act must bar public officials and their immediate family members from owning digital asset ventures while in office. If this bill passes without those safeguards, it will leave the door wide open for future abuses.”
